2nd-4th Grade Girls- This program will develop the basic fundamental skills of dribbling, passing and shooting and they will be introduced to games and the rules of game play. 2nd-4th Grade girls will play on Monday-Wednesday .
5th-6th Grade Girls- This program will offer a higher level of game play by having the girls play in the Maplewood Community Basketball League. They will have two practices per week on average and play games within the Maplewood, Oakdale, Stillwater, Woodbury, Cottage Grove area on Saturdays in December through March.
7th-8th grade- This program is very similar to the 5th-6th grade and the number of teams will be based solely on numbers.
This introduces our young athletes to the game of basketball with a variety of dribbling, passing and shooting drills. We will focus on teaching the very basics of these skills with fun games and competitions. The first graders will go M/W starting in October and will end in December. A big highlight is performing a variety of basic skills at Halftime of a Park Varsity Basketball game!
2nd Grade Inhouse:
This is a brand new level of play for our 2nd graders. This will be for the 2nd grader that has already participated in basketball clinic for one or more years and is ready for a higher level of instruction. This level will focus again on the very basics of dribbling, passing and shooting, but will introduce the players to scrimmage and game play using 3 vs 3 man to man competition. This will also be M/W but will continue into January for more sessions.
3rd-4th Grade Boys:
We are doing something different with the 3rd-4th grade boys this year. This program will offer a higher level of game play by having the boys play in the Maplewood Community Basketball League. They will have two practices per week on average starting early November and play games within the Maplewood, Oakdale, Stillwater, Woodbury, Cottage Grove area on Saturdays in December through March.
5th/6th – 7th/8th Grade (Girls & Boys):Organized into equal teams. Multiple practices and games, and games against other community rec. teams (some travel involved) in the Maplewood League. These programs are highly competitive, focusing on community representation, sportsmanship, teamwork, game strategy, with an emphasis on the fundamentals, shooting and disciplined defense. The season culminates in a competitive and equally classed end of the year tournament.
Each grade has the option of placing a team(s) in an extended season to compete in the MYAS Rec. State Tournament in March.
